Anderson & McFarlane (2008)
define Community Health
Nursing as "the practice of
nursing by professional
nurses who have been educated
in the process of
population-based nursing and
whose principal client is
the aggregate community."

Anderson, E. & McFarlane, J.
(2008). Community as partner,
5th Edition. New York: Lippincott

"REMOTE AREA NURSE" was an excellent Australian Television Series (2003) which portrayed the professional and personal life of a Public Health Nurse assigned to a small indigenous islander community in the Bismarck Sea, north of Australia.

Randolph Rasch, PhD, APRN
First African-American man to be a Public Health Nurse in Michigan, as well as in North Carolina. Additionally, Dr. Rasch was the first African American man to earn a PhD in Nursing (University of Texas, 1988). He is presently director of Nurse Practitioner Programs, Vanderbilt University.
